Yellowstone National Park continues on its way to breaking the annual attendance record, based on preliminary data and breaking down monthly recreational attendance through June.

The park hosted 914,612 recreation visits this past June, up 8% from June of 2023, which had 847,864 recreation visits. The only month on record to top this year’s June attendance was in 2021, which was about 24,000 visits, or about 3% higher than this past June.

The annual attendance record was set in 2021 with 4.86 million visits, according to National Park Service park reports. Last year’s attendance was the second highest attendance rate (behind 2021) with more than 4.5 million visits. So far in 2024, the park has hosted 1,633,739 recreation visits, up 9% from 2023 (1,492,843 recreation visits), and up 3% from 2021 (1,587,998 recreation visits).

It is possible, based on month-to-month comparisons, for the park to reach more than 5 million visits this year for the first time.

Attendance through the East Gate in Park County, has increased 3.44% so far this year, the lowest increase of the five entrances. Both the North and South gates have increased slightly more than 13% over last year through June, followed by the Northeast Gate at about 8.5%, and the West Gate at 6.8%.

The number of vehicles entering through the East Gate so far this year has been 53,151, or about 1,750 more than in 2023, but about 13,300 fewer vehicles than in 2021.

Including all visits, which counts employees and vendors, the total number of visits through June is currently at about 2.12 million.
