Park County Fair: What to look for when 113th annual event kicks off

The 113th Park County Fair will arrive next week and with it will come carnival rides, fair food, a demolition derby and more.

This year’s fair will be similar to years past with a few changes; there will be more automotive events in the grandstands and more vendors on the grounds while the concert has been moved from Thursday to Friday.

From noon on Tuesday through late on the night of Saturday, July 27, fairgoers will be greeted by 27 food vendors (among 46 in total) and performances ranging from illusionists to cloggers on the Pepsi Free Stage.

Admission is free all-day on Tuesday and free until 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. For the remainder of the fair, day passes are $6 while a weeklong pass is $16.

The free stage schedule will be slightly different this year, with performances starting at noon and the last performance beginning at 9 p.m. every night of the week.

As for Midway Attractions’ carnival, it will open from 6-11 p.m. Tuesday and from 1-11 p.m. On Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the rides will power on at noon and close at midnight.

At 4 p.m. Tuesday, those who are curious can check out exhibition matches hosted by the Post 26 Big Horn Basin Boxing Club on the concrete near the fair office. Following the young boxers’ last round, pig mud wrestling returns to the grandstands at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and, like last year, there will be a ticket charge, of $6.

On Wednesday, those craving some mechanical mayhem can head to the grandstands for the second straight year of figure 8 races. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. General admission is $17 and box seats are $23 (though only three remained this week).

After a long absence, a truck pull will return to the fair’s grandstands Thursday night. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the first pulls will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, or $17 for box seats.

On Friday night, music will fill the air as Tyler Rich and opening act Jared Rogerson perform before the grandstands. Tickets are $23 for general seating and $28 for box and floor seats. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 6 p.m.

Then, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Park County Fair Parade will make its way through downtown Powell on Bent Street. After that, the Junior Livestock Sale will begin at 1 p.m.; last year, buyers spent $632,028 on livestock raised by local youth.

Capping Saturday’s lineup is the ever popular demolition derby in the grandstands, starting up at 6 p.m. Tickets are $23 for general seating.
