After recording their first win of the season the Powell Pioneers will be looking to carry that momentum into another set of games against a familiar opponent.
The Pioneers (1-4) recorded their first win against the Sheridan Jets on April 26 before a two-week break, setting up a rematch against another team the Pioneers faced just prior to the early season stoppage.
Powell will yet again host the Gallatin Valley Outlaws (3-6) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a Mother’s Day doubleheader.
The Outlaws defeated the Pioneers two weeks ago by scorelines of 3-1 and 8-4, with the Pioneers hopeful a couple of weeks to refocus will help the team regain its footing after a slow start to the
season.
Powell is led thus far by Kolby Gates on the mound, who has pitched the most innings to date and has the lone win for the Pioneers.
At the plate the Pioneers have three batters at a .357 batting average or higher, as Gates and Dominik Bieber each are hitting at that rate while Caden Diaz leads the team with a .462 average.
Bieber leads the team with eight RBIs, more than double the next Pioneer.
This will start a quick swing of action as the Pioneers will head to Lovell next weekend for a double header on Saturday, May 16, before taking Memorial Day weekend off for graduation.
