The Northwest College men’s wrestling team is on the road and ready for the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The nine Trappers making the trip are aiming high.
Zachary Covolo will represent the Trappers at 133 pounds. Covolo is going in unseeded but will receive a bye into the round of 32.
He’ll take on the winner of No. 15 seed Kaden Lapaugh from Southwestern Michigan and unseeded John Kenney from Fort Hays Tech out of Kansas.
Kaiden Rubash is also unseeded and received a bye into the round of 32 at 141 pounds. He’ll take on Toryion Stallings from Northeastern Oklahoma.
Jack Lounsbury is unseeded at 149 pounds, and will face No. 13 seed Wylie Stone from Snow College out of Utah in the round of 64.
Treyson Davila will be unseeded at 157 pounds, taking on the No. 16 seed, Dillon Spaulding from Bismarck State College out of North Dakota, in the round of 64.
One of the Trappers’ top-seeded wrestlers is Asad Fayzullaev, who enters the competition as the No. 6 seed at 165 pounds. He will receive a first round bye and then grapple with unseeded Jaheim Mills of Andrew College in Georgia in the round of 32.
Jesse Thornton is seeded No. 14 at 174 pounds, and will take on unseeded Mac Chambers from Cloud College out of Kansas in the round of 32.
Robbie Ortega represents Northwest at 184 pounds. Ortega will be unseeded as he takes on No. 16 seed Noah Foster from Nassau Community College out of New York in the round of 32.
At 197 pounds, the Trappers will be represented by Austin Richens, who will be the No. 6 seed. Richens will take on unseeded Christian Preston from Andrew College.
Jett Swain is the Trappers’ highest seeded wrestler, coming in as No. 5 at 285 pounds.
Swain will not receive a bye, and will take on unseeded Christopher Broderick from Camden County College from New Jersey in the round of 64.
The tournament will kick off Friday and wrap up on Saturday.
