Tom Sage, age 73, passed away at Powell Valley Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, after a brief hospital stay following a fall at his home in Powell.

Tom was born and raised in Powell, graduated from Powell High School in 1971, and then attended two years at Northwest College. He married Sue Chambers of Cody on March 13, 1974. Tom and Sue had two children, Rob and Ellen. The family moved to Montana where Tom spent approximately 10 years working at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings in the maintenance department. When the marriage ended in divorce, Tom returned to Powell where he remained in the area for the rest of his life, never venturing far from Park County.

Tom was child number five and the only boy in a family of six children. Tom’s parents were Ernest Sage and Pauline Doolin Sage. He was preceded in death by his parents, two older half-sisters Doris Tenant and Neree Barrett, and older sister Gerry Sage Allen. Immediate surviving family members include son Rob Sage and his family of Washington state, daughter Ellen Sage of Texas, older sister and brother-in-law Jo and Butch Hanson of Powell, and younger sister and brother-in-law Wanda Sage-McCollum and Dennis McCollum of Powell. Extended surviving family members include grandchildren, nephews, great-nephews and cousins.

During these past several years, Tom was content to live a quiet and simple life at his small home in the center of town. He was a neatnik who didn’t like clutter or dustables. His best friend and companion Pokey, an adorable high-energy Boston terrier given to him by his son, was the center of his life. Tom can rest in peace knowing that Pokey will be well cared for and loved when he goes home with Rob to his new family in Washington.

In accordance with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Thank you to all the community members, neighbors and friends who looked out for and cared for Tom in his last years when his physical condition and health were in decline. We greatly appreciate the concern you all had for him.
