Dear editor:
I would like to personally thank Shawn Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll, friends at the First Bank of Wyoming, Bank of Powell, Sunlight Federal Credit Union, the American Legion, Victory Baptist Church and the members of this great community for their donations and time spent with the Angel Tree program.
The Angel Tree program helps bring joy to area children who might otherwise go empty-handed during the Christmas season. It also brings the joy of giving to those who select a child or children to honor during our annual charity effort. Participants have expressed the joy of shopping for children, especially after their own children are grown.
The program was started by Sally Montoya, who volunteered 70 years of her life to help give needy families a hand up during this special time of the year. Sally asked that we continue her efforts after she was gone. Those who help continue Angel Tree are working in the spirit of Sally, who had a heart for helping all in need, including me when I first arrived in Powell looking for a safe home to raise my family.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
