Dear editor:
As Wyoming’s midterm elections approach, I’d like to offer a perspective, for the consideration of your readers:
Fiscal conservatives in the state have watched as the federal debt has ballooned to $40 trillion under the Trump administration. Yes, it’s true that the debt increased significantly under the Biden administration, but the increase during Trump’s two terms in office is estimated at over $11 trillion.
Constitutional conservatives have watched as Trump has attacked First Amendment rights, 14th Amendment rights, judicial independence, and congressional authority, all while increasing his personal wealth by over $2 billion, in violation of the Emoluments Clause.
Religious conservatives helped elect a convicted felon; an adulterer who separates children from their families and attacks the weak and vulnerable in our society. What would Jesus do? I don’t think he’d act like Donald Trump ...
All of this has taken place while our current slate of federal legislators has either stood by silently, or actively participated in support. I realize that Donald Trump is not on the ballot. But he did say “Pretend I’m on the ballot.” Many of our prospective legislators have aligned themselves with Trump and his policies. As I see it, a vote for those people is not a vote for conservative values but rather, a vote in support of a cult of personality.
