Along with other voters across the country, Park County residents will head to the polls today (Tuesday) for the general election.
Among other items, local voters will help pick two of Wyoming’s next members of Congress and a new governor, weigh in on an initiative that would slash homeowners’ property taxes, determine the fate of a proposed county-wide sales tax hike and choose dozens of officials, ranging from lawmakers to cemetery board members.
Between Meeteetse and Frannie, county voters will sift through about 120 candidates and consider the performance of four judges.
As of midafternoon Monday, 5,300 county residents had already cast their ballots, the Park County Elections Office reported, and the number was continuing to climb as the day went on. The figure accounts for nearly a third of the registered voters in the county and puts the county on pace to beat the early turnout from the last off-cycle general elections in 2022 and 2018.
With a couple hours of early voting to go, about 3,500 people had voted at the elections office in Cody while 1,820 residents had cast absentee ballots; any outstanding absentee ballots must be turned into the clerk’s office by 7 p.m. today (Tuesday).
The Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office reported that early and absentee voting have also been strong across the state. More than 65,000 Wyomingites had already cast their ballots as of Friday evening, the office said, which was ahead of the pace of the 2022 and 2018 general elections.
For those voting on Election Day, polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The locations are the same as they were in the primary, with most Powell area residents again voting at Heart Mountain Hall at the Park County Fairgrounds.
Residents can register to vote at their polling location. All voters need to bring an acceptable form of identification, such as a state driver’s license or ID card.
