The Powell Middle School boys’ track and field team wrapped up the regular season on a high note, as the seventh grade Cubs won by 73.5 points in Lovell and eighth graders finished runners-up by 7.5 points.
Individual winners for the seventh grade team included Kaile Lasson in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 1.96 seconds, and the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 2 inches; Ethan Kennedy in the 1600 meters in 5:31.34; Jake Williams in the pole vault clearing 8 feet and Kayson Brown in the discus with a throw of 84-4.
Relay wins for the Cubs included the 4x400 relay team of Josiah Davis-Crevison, Keaton Keller, Kennedy and Cyrus Graham with a time of 4:52.25, winning by nearly a minute, and the team of Carson Basso, Manti Jeide, Danen Oram and Lasson, which won the 800 sprint medley relay with a time of 1:56.33.
Other top three finishers included Oram who took second in the 200 meters (27.17) and third in the 100 meter dash (12.91); Basso was second in the 400 meters (1:04.45); Kennedy was second in the 800 meters (2:38.53); Jeide placed second in the 100 meter hurdles (18.33) and the 200 meter hurdles (31); Williams was third in the 400 meters (1:05.44) and the 100 meter hurdles (19.67); Keller placed third in the 800 meters (2:40.27); Allan Fisk placed third in the 1600 meters (6:07.75) while Brown and Cox tied for third in the shot put (26-2 1/2).
The Cubs recorded 203 points, 73.5 points ahead of second placed Lovell.
Leading the eighth graders was Carter Gambill, who won the 200 meters in 24.75 seconds, the 400 meters in 54.75 seconds and the high jump clearing 5-4; Kendall Matthews was the other individual winner taking the pole vault clearing 8-6.
The 800 sprint medley relay team of Tyler Cole, Tucker McDonald, Zaiden Powell and Gambill won with a time of 1:49.12.
Other top three winners included Ryder DeBoer who placed second in the 800 meters (2:21.54); Cole placed second in the 100 meter hurdles (17.06), 200 meter hurdles (29.57) and the triple jump (34-11 1/4); McDonald took second in the pole vault (8) and third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.81) and Dawson Engesser took third in the shot put (37-4 1/4).
As a team the Cubs finished with 157 points, just 7.5 behind winner Worland but well ahead of Burlington in third with 119.
The Cubs now start the postseason in Worland on Saturday for the Yellowstone Conference Meet before heading to Lander on Tuesday for the Best of the Best.
