Only track events took place at the Powell Middle School Invitational on Saturday but that didn’t slow down the Cubs, as the seventh grade boys placed second as a team and the eighth graders were fourth at home.

Despite having no individual winners the seventh grade Cubs had a number of top finishes, those came from Manti Jeide who tied for second in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 18.83 seconds and took second in the 200 meter hurdles in 31.42 seconds, while Kaile Lasson took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 1.25 seconds.

Two relays also earned second place, as the team of Cyrus Graham, Allan Fisk, Keaton Keller and Ethan Kennedy took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:49.51, and the 800 sprint medley relay of Jeide, Lasson, Jake Williams and Carson Basso placed second in 1:59.16.

Other Cubs top eight finishers included Kennedy, who took third in the 800 meters (2:38.84) and 1600 meters (5:40.37); Basso was third in the 400 meters (1:03.5), fifth in the 100 meters (14.04) and seventh in the 200 meters (29.14); Williams took fourth in the 200 meter hurdles (32.74); Lasson placed fifth in the 200 meter hurdles (33.12); Keller took sixth in the 800 meters (2:43.35) and the 1600 meters (5:55.31).

As a team the Cubs finished with 78 points, only seven behind winners Cody but seven points ahead of the Sheridan ‘A’ team in third place.

The eighth grade Cubs had one win on the day, as the 4x400 relay team of Ryder DeBoer, Zaiden Powell, Kendall Matthews and Auzzy Carter won by five seconds with a time of 4:08.58.

The 800 sprint medley relay team of Tyler Cole, Kayde Northrup, Tucker McDonald and Carter Gambill also added a second place finish with a time of 1:49.21.

Third place was the highest individual placement for the Cubs, as Gambill tied for third in the 100 meter dash (12.77) and Cole was third in the 200 meter hurdles (29.22).

Other top eight finishes for the eighth grade Cubs included Gambill who placed fourth in the 200 meters (25.58); Matthews took fourth in the 800 meters (2:24.34); DeBoer took fourth in the 1600 meters (5:28.44); McDonald was fifth in the 200 meter hurdles (30.22) and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.63); Cole took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.02) and Powell was eighth in the 400 meters (1:02.23).

As a team the Cubs finished with 57.5 points, 1.5 behind Cody in third, as the Sheridan ‘A’ team won with 68 points, just ahead of the Sheridan ‘B’ team with 67.5.

The Cubs head on the road for the rest of the season, starting with a short trip to Lovell on Friday, before the conference meet next weekend in Worland.
