September happenings at the library

In the library September always means National Library Card Sign Up Month. This month is a great reminder, if you haven’t stopped by one of our three libraries, then this is a great month to do it. A library card is the best card to have as it allows you access to all of the great offerings we have at the Park County Libraries, in our library and online. In celebration of National Library Card Sign Up Month, Park County Library will be releasing special stickers later this month, so make sure and check us out.

The Powell Library is calling all homeschool families to join us on Monday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. for an information gathering session. Powell Library wants your input to find out how best we can serve homeschooling families in our community. Please come to this session and share your thoughts and needs with the library.

Please join the Park County Library Foundation for its meeting this month at the Powell Library on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at noon. This is a great chance to learn more about the foundation and how you can help join and support the library.

Friday morning card games are back at the library. Please join us at 9 a.m. every Friday morning to play cards, cribbage, puzzles and other fun card games.

Have you always been interested in canning and preserving? Then come to the Powell Library on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. for an Intro to Canning and Preserving presented by Denise Laursen. Denise is a retired food science teacher and 4-H food processing instructor.

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “The Cowboy Girl: the Life of Caroline Lockhart” by John Clayton. We also offer an evening book discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. We will be discussing “Finlay Donovan is Killing It” by Elle Cosimano.

Stop by the Powell Library on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. for a special Wyoming Library to Business presentation about LinkedIn hosted by Rebekah Burns, executive director of PEP, Powell Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. to make canning ring pumpkins.

Teens are welcome at the Powell Library and we have a lot of fun activities planned for after school. Every Wednesday at 2 p.m. stop by and chat with the young adult librarian. Every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. join us for young adult craft time and every Friday at 2 p.m. for early release activities. Stop by the library, check out our social media pages or calendar on our website to learn more about the activities for the week.

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children. Join Ms. Renee every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby & Toddler Time and every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time. Lego Club for K-fifth grade is back — join us Thursday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m. Kids in K-fifth grade come join us on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. to build a hobbit or fairy house.

In September, stop by on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Powell Friends of the Library Book Sale. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library. Also, if you’re interested in helping out with book sales and supporting the library consider joining the Friends of the Library.

If you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library, then please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation and would love to have the Powell community well represented. The foundation only meets a few times a year and we can even meet in the Powell Library. If interested in learning more and want to join, contact Karen Horner at 307-527-1881 and help strengthen the library.

We have seeds from our seed library as you start your gardens and we have nature backpacks filled with items to enhance your local hike. As always, we have binge boxes, switch games and console, health kits, board games, puzzles, Rokus, blood pressure kits and much more to borrow.
