Sept. 11 Stair Climb returns to Cody

Posted

Dear editor:

According to the Association of Memorial Stair Climbs, the first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb occurred in Parwan Province, Afghanistan, on Sept. 11, 2003 when Albuquerque (New Mexico) Fire Department Lt. Charles Cogburn ascended a two-story building 55 times wearing body armor, a helmet and an M-4.

Last year Cody held its first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, and we are honored to do it again this year. Participants will climb the steps of the Scout Statue (between the hospital and the museum) 110 times, to honor and remember the almost 3,000 civilians and the 343 FDNY firefighters who were killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Participants can climb as individuals. They can also share in the effort of the climb and build a team.

Climb all 110 flights of stairs. Or climb fewer. Do as many as you want, because no matter how many flights you climb, you will be honoring those we lost.

If you are physically unable to climb stairs, then please attend this event as an observer and support those who are climbing. Everyone in our community is welcome to attend.

The Stair Climb is scheduled for Sept. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. Please go to Cody 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Facebook for more information and updates.
