Dear editor:

Regarding a recent letter published here that grabbed my attention (April 30, 2026), I believe the authors expressed some pretty bizarre implications and accusations.

Iranians chanting “death to America” and threatening to wipe us out. What? I don’t like that either, but there have been many similar statements made from a lot of people,  governments and religious sects from around the world for many, many years — possibly since around 1776.

Why do many of us believe that Iran is so much more threatening than China, North Korea or Russia? Like these enemies, the Iranians know that any nuclear attack on us, or our allies, would result in their own country being quickly annihilated in response. Also, keep in mind that Pakistan, France, UK, India and Israel also possess nuclear weapons.

Regarding the so called “Obama nuclear deal." The U.S. was not alone on that agreement,  finalized on July 14, 2015, between Iran and the P5 +1, the permanent members of the UN Security Council — China, France, Russia, the US, the UK, plus Germany, together with the European Union. The signatures to this agreement also included Iran. This agreement, along with representative inspectors from those countries, stood strong and effective until Donald Trump put an end to it Jan. 16, 2016. The Iranians took off with their alternative plan and immediately returned to their previous nuclear ambitions. The $1.7 billion was for allowing them to recoup their own funds that had been frozen years earlier as part of the negotiated agreement.

The “Hasan” hymn may just be a lovely musical sound to any listener, with no meaning to outsiders. I don’t know about it, do you?

Obama’s life a secret? There are countless numbers of books, newspaper and magazine articles, recorded interviews and news reports out there; in addition to all we’ve heard  and seen — and can remember — about him from before, during, and after his presidency.

Just what is “woke” anyway? My dictionary defines it as “the past tense of awake." I think that’s probably a good thing. But it seems to me that over the past few years the word is more commonly used as a derogatory slang word for humanitarians, liberals and free thinkers.

Most Americans are suffering more now than they have in many years. Most people don’t hate President Trump, but they sure don’t like what he’s doing to the majority of the American people, our economy, our standing in the world — except for Russia, China and Israel — and our hope for a better future. Not just for ourselves, but for all humanity.

"Paid Protestors?" I have yet to see or hear of any credible evidence of even one person being paid to protest among the hundreds of thousands of Americans who, from time to time, come out and express their opinions and grievances. Absolutely no rioting or violence on their part!

Finally, I certainly can agree with these conservative Americans on one point, “Perhaps the best cure for all the hatred is to start thinking for yourself and do some research on your own.”

Respectfully,

Bob Goodyear
