Powell Elks Lodge 2303 hosted the annual Elks National Hoop Shoot on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Northwest College gymnasium, bringing together dozens of young athletes ages 8-13 for a spirited free throw competition. Contestants participated in three age divisions — 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 — and each athlete took 25 shots to determine the winners in their respective categories.
Lodge Secretary Christi Greaham chaired the event and noted that the Hoop Shoot reflects the organization’s dedication to fostering hard work, perseverance and community involvement among local children.
Families, friends and supporters filled the stands, and volunteers from both the Lodge and the broader community contributed to event setup, coordination and safety measures.
The top three in each event were (from first to third): Audrey Sanders, Macy Hodges and Scarlett Duyck in girls’ 8-9 years old; Ryver Gillett, Maggie Cheatham and Easton Martin in girls’ 10-11; Jersee Erickson, Blakely Piper and Emily Sanders in girls’ 12-13; Case Duyck, Tucker Baumann and Paxton Rohrer in boys’ 8-9; Weston Rohrer, Cameron Schuler and JaeBe Rapp in boys’ 10-11 and Kolbie Parker in the boys’ 12-13 division.
The Elks plan to host the District Hoop Shoot on Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at Cabre Gym.
