The Powell Panther swim and dive team finished fifth in Worland last weekend competing against a number of conference opponents, with the Panthers seeing Douglas for the first time this season.
Kaitlin Diver was the top Panther finisher with two wins at the meet.
Diver won the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 9.51 seconds, and the 500 free in 5:45.19.
Patricia Christensen added a pair of top finishes, taking second place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.4 and fourth in the 100 free in 1:03.46.
Daisy Carpenter took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:15.89, while Lynea Christensen was fifth in the 500 free with a time of 6:30.06.
All four of those swimmers combined to take second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:12.01.
Lynea Christensen also took eighth in diving, just four points short of qualifying for the state meet with a score of 146.35.
“Lynea is just one dive away from making her state qualification,” coach Bob Smartt said. “She is trying to become our first Panther athlete in six years to qualify for state in both diving and swimming.”
Brooke Brown added a fifth place finish in the 100 back in 1:17.44 and a seventh place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:36.93 as the final top eight finishes for the Panthers.
Powell finished fifth as a team with 295 points, as Buffalo just pulled ahead of Cody with 447.5 points to take the win by 7.5 points.
The Panthers continue on the road this week, heading to Cody on Thursday for a quick dual before taking the rest of the weekend off from competition.
Smartt said the Panthers are still searching for their best entries for each participant midway through the season, as the conference meet is in Powell on Oct. 24-25.
“We are exploring new races for some of our athletes as we try to plan for what our entry will look like for the conference meet in five weeks,” Smartt said. “We are hosting conference this year and we want to have a strong lineup with our best chance of advancing as many athletes as possible to finals and to score points for the team.”
