Hitting the course again to end August on Thursday and Friday the Powell Panther girl golfers took fourth while the boys placed fifth at the Worland Golf Invitational.
The girls were led by Emery Hernandez, who added a third consecutive top 10 finish, tying for eighth with dual rounds of 91.
“Emery was very consistent this week and she is hitting the ball really well right now and I expect her back in the 80s as we head down the (final) stretch of the season,” coach Troy Hildebrand said.
Not far behind Hernandez was Coy Erickson, who turned in rounds of 95 and 94 to take 15th.
Ali Scott showed improvement in her third tournament, dropping her second round score into the 90s for the first time with rounds of 106 and 97 to take 21st.
“Ali had a good showing Thursday and then came back Friday with her career best round of 97. That really comes at a great time for us, hopefully she can start to post rounds in the mid 90s as we head towards state,” Hildebrand said.
Maddie Croft was the final Panther in with scores of 120 and 122 to take 36th.
Powell finished fourth overall with a score of 574. Wheatland took the individual and team titles led by Jaylen Kaufman with rounds of 82 and 80 to lead the Bulldogs to a score of 517 over both days.
Leading the boys once again was Cody Fisher, who had dual rounds of 78 to finish fourth overall.
“Cody had another great weekend and started the tournament with a 35 (one under) on his opening nine holes,” Hildebrand said. “He was able to play both days with the defending 3A champion in Tate Nichols and really held his own very well. Getting the opportunity to play with a player like that is a great way to really see where your game stacks up.”
Second in for Powell was Park Harvison, posting scores of 88 and 84 to take 19th.
Just behind Harvison was Jace Harris, who posted two career best rounds, carding scores of 88 and 85 to take 21st.
“Jace finally had a breakout week and I could not be happier for him,” Hildebrand said. “He has a ton of talent and just hadn’t quite gotten it all together until this week … As a senior this is the perfect time to start playing the best golf of his career.”
Abel Teten was fourth for the Panthers, also having one of his best tournaments to date with scores of 94 and 96.
Two Panthers finished within one place of each other, as Tucker Muecke placed 38th with rounds of 99 and 100 while Kason Sherman took 39th with rounds of 97 and 103.
Ryder Stewart took 44th with rounds of 103 while Knox Johnson was the final Panther with rounds of 106 and 103 to take 46th.
The Panther boys took fifth in the team standings, finishing with 727 over both days, as Wheatland ran away with both the team and individual titles. Nichols took the individual crown with scores of 66 and 73 while Wheatland won by 49 strokes with a score of 600.
The regular season wraps up this week for the Panthers, heading to Buffalo at noon Thursday and at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Powell then returns to the basin to take part in the conference tournament next week in Lovell before heading to Cody for the state tournament the following week.
