Matthew Rogers McClain, 50, of Powell passed away due to complications from lung cancer on Dec. 4, 2025 in Billings. He was born on July 5, 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and moved to Cody in his early teens.
Matthew enjoyed road trips across the country, bowling, playing pool, biking, football (Geaux Saints), and music. Matt’s favorite band was Judas Priest. He was a talented guitar player and regularly sang their songs at karaoke. Matt was strong willed, opinionated and a true agent of chaos, but he loved his friends and family deeply.
He is survived by his dog Eeyore; four children, Abby McClain, Asia Brendle (July Krakel), Jance McClain and Matthew Benjamin McClain (Angel); three grandchildren, long-time partner and friend Alena Brendle; siblings Michael McClain, Melanie McClain (Brendan Liam) and Brian McClain (Amy); as well as countless friends and family across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents Rebecca Rogers McClain and Leslie (Mac) McClain.
A celebration of life will be held at the Willwood clubhouse on Dec. 27 from 2-4 p.m. and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Glenn Tipton Parkinson’s Foundation in Matt’s honor.
