Lisa Ann Ray passed away June 14, 2025 at Heart to Heart Hospice in Spring, Texas. She was born in Worland, Wyoming, Nov. 5, 1954 to Archie and Merle (nee Phillips) Ray.
Lisa was raised in Powell, Wyoming, and loved gymnastics, softball and sports in general until she was in a car accident at age 15. She loved cards, especially poker and bridge. Her car accident caused numerous surgeries through the years. Lisa graduated from Powell High School in 1973 and went on to earn her BSN nursing degree from the University of Wyoming in 1980. She worked as a nurse in Powell, Laramie and Midland, Texas. Lisa met Jim Cozzens in Powell in February 1976 and they married in the Presbyterian Church in Powell in 1982. Lisa and Jim drove into Rome the summer of 1982 when Italy won the World Soccer Cup that year. They spent three months in Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece before moving to Casper, Wyoming.
Lisa and Jim have three children: Sean, Julian and Tessa, born respectively in Casper, Laramie and Vietnam. The family traveled a lot when they could. Eventually Jim’s work in the oil patch led them to Spring, Texas. Julian passed away in 1992 when he was 15, and this was especially hard on Lisa. She is with him now playing bridge and taking trips among the stars.
Lisa traveled all over the world. She loved to fly places and take cruises. Jim, a geologist/geophysicist, often could not be gone from work more than a week so she traveled with her sister Judy. She flew around Mt. Everest and very few people get closer to their higher power than that.
Lisa was preceded in death by her second son Julian, and her parents Archie and Merle Ray. May they rest in peace. She is survived by Sean (Jeni), Tessa (Keiko), Judy Hazen (Denver), Nancy Wester (Red Lodge), Nikki McCrea (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), and her nieces and nephews Rafer (Denver), Jonathan (Billings), Anna (Whitefish, Montana), Ella (Austin, Texas), Bryan (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), her brother-in-law AJ (Powell along with wife Sharon and niece Emma), and sister-in-law Sue (Billings). Her wish was for cremation and to be spread under Julian’s tree at her home in Spring, Texas. There will be no funeral. If you want to make her day, donate to the American Cancer Society.
