Dear editor:
Feb. 8, 2025 will be the 50th anniversary of the Showalter Music Festival held at Northwest College. I encourage all private music teachers to get their fifth through eighth graders involved in the festival. It is a fantastic learning experience for the students as well as the teachers. It is also a great time to interact with music teachers from all around the basin as well as the southwest part of Montana.
While it is a lot of work to get students prepared for the festival, it is rewarding, educational and fun. The festival has adjudicators who are “Kid” friendly as well as being very knowledgeable on their instruments and vocal techniques. All band instruments are welcomed as well as piano and vocal. Help make this festival the best yet, get your students involved and most importantly be there to support them.
It is my hope that this 50th festival will be a big one and will give positive encouragement to all who participate in it. Registration is usually due in to the college by the middle of January. Check the website — Showalter Music Festival, 2025 (This may not be up yet) — for more information or call the college music department at 307-754-6425.
I hope to see a lot of musicians in February.
Judy Showalter
