Dear editor:
Rob, please stop the whining.
This is in response to the letter to the editor July 29 as well as the immense volume of gripes presented by Rob Stevens, a small acreage landowner and receiving water from the Shoshone Irrigation District. Rob’s apparent issue is the $300/PER YEAR small landowner fee. Good grief, that’s equal to $25/per month. We would hazard a guess that the minimum meter charge for electricity is greater than that. I think that it would be safe to say that Rob needs to stop this incessant whining and be thankful that we have any irrigation at all.
His rhetoric seems to have a California-like stench and he really needs to leave it wherever he came from. Rob has choices: If you are unhappy with the fee, just don’t pay it. It boils down to do you want the water or not? Just don’t pay one more nickel for it than you think it’s worth. Drill a well and save all that $300/PER YEAR (the math on that is not going to work out, but hey, that’ll save $300/per year to SID).
We as rate payers in the Shoshone Irrigation District are pleased to know that some of our assessment increases will be needed to help cover the incurred legal expenses for your small landowner crusade. Thanks, Rob.
We must, however, applaud Brian Duyck’s attempts to present reasonable answers to Mr. Stevens’ issues. As with any conversation, written or oral, there are senders and receivers. Mr. Stevens just ain’t receiving. We are darned thankful for having this irrigation district, and personnel running it so that we can have the water to irrigate our crops.
