Two weekends spent in Fremont County allowed the Powell Panther girls’ junior varsity team to play against a wide range of teams from around the state, finishing with a 5-0 record including four wins by double digits.
Starting the season against Pinedale the Panthers faced pressure from the jump, but fought through to a 15-11 halftime lead.

Kaedenze Carter led with 18 points, Ava Teten had 11, Hali Hancock had six, Shelby Zickefoose had five and Maddie Valdez added three.
In the second game the Panthers took on Rawlins, with the Outlaws hitting two 3-pointers in the first minute.
Powell responded and held a 12-11 lead after the first quarter and built a 25-13 lead at the break.
The Panthers cruised in the second half to a 50-18 win.
Leah Graham led with 14 points, Carter and Hancock had nine each, Valdez had seven, Teten added five, Zickefoose added four and Melanie Garcia had two.
In the final game of the first weekend the Panthers took on host Lander, as Powell built a lead early and maintained it throughout the game.
“Lander always has a good group and they are a team that we know is going to play extremely hard and this year was no exception to that,” coach Troy Hildebrand said.
Powell held onto its lead throughout, and held off the Tigers for a 32-30 win.
Carter led with 14 points, Graham had 12 and Teten, Zickefoose and Hancock each had two.
The second weekend in Lander had the Panthers taking on Burns, as the Panthers immediately jumped out to a 23-2 lead after the first.
From that point on the Panthers dominated and earned a 49-7 win with every player who suited up scoring.
Freshman Kindyle Floy led with 18 points, Hancock had eight and Zickefoose had seven points. Teten, Graham and Valdez each had four points, while Kate Mainwaring and freshman Autumn Kidd had two points each.
Wrapping up the start of the year the Panthers faced off against Wheatland and used a strong defensive effort throughout.
Powell led 9-3 after the first quarter before an outburst in the second quarter gave the Panthers a 37-12 lead.
The Panthers finished the game with a 59-29 win.
Floy led with 16 points, Zickefoose had 10, Hancock had eight, Graham and Kidd had seven each, while Valdez had six and Teten had five.
