Continuing with conference games the Powell High School girls’ JV team defeated Worland 35-26 and Lander 35-28 before losing to Pinedale 48-45 to go 2-1 over the past two weeks.
The Panthers started slow against Worland, before a strong third quarter helped the Panthers pull ahead for good.
Powell pulled out the 35-26 win over the Warriors.
Sam Edgell led with 13 points, Aspen French added seven, Ava Teten and Autumn Kidd added five each, Addie Gillett had three and Stella Shoopman had two.
Heading to Lander on Friday the Panthers trailed 21-12 at halftime as the Tigers shot strong early, before a strong third quarter once again gave Powell a 29-23 lead heading into the fourth.
Powell pulled ahead for the 35-28 win, led by Gillett with eight, Kidd and Edgell with seven each, Teten with six, Shoopman with five and Charlie Eastman with two.
The Panthers fell behind early in Pinedale, and trailed by double-digits 38-28 going into the fourth quarter.
Powell’s defense stepped up and turned it into a two point lead with three minutes left, and the two teams exchanged the lead until Pinedale hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining.
“The girls executed our final play perfectly to get an open look at a three to tie but we weren’t able to get it to go,” coach Troy Hildebrand said.
Powell fell 48-45, but Gillett led with 14 points, Edgell and Teten added 11, Breiyah Bonander had four, Kidd and Eastman had two each while Shoopman had one.
The Panther JV teams wrap up the regular season at home against Lovell and Cody at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
