The Powell High School girls’ junior varsity basketball team went 13-7 for the season, losing to Lovell 54-41 and Cody 26-23 to end the year with a pair of home losses.
Powell started out much better against the Bulldogs the second time, as the Panthers led 23-21 at the half.
Unfortunately a 17-4 third quarter gave Lovell the lead, and that lead hit as many as 20 before Powell trimmed the final margin to 54-41.
“I was really pleased with how the girls started the game and competed throughout, we just had a stumble there in the third quarter with some poor shooting and foul trouble that Lovell took advantage of to build their lead,” coach Troy Hildebrand said.
Sam Edgell led with 12 points, Aspen French had nine, Ava Teten added eight, Autumn Kidd had seven, Addie Gillett had three and Stella Shoopman added two.
In the final game the Panthers again played better against the Fillies, as the visitors only led 15-9 at the half.
“For the first four minutes of the third quarter we couldn’t get anything going but then finished that period on a 6-2 run and went into the fourth down 22-15,” Hildebrand said.
In the fourth the Panthers pulled within three in the final minute, and Cody missed two free throws but the final shot from the Panthers to tie fell short.
Edgell led with eight points, Teten added four, Charlie Eastman, French, Kidd, Gillett and Breiyah Bonander had two each. Shoopman added one.
