June happenings at the library

The Powell Library is open for business. If you have not visited us yet, make sure and come see us in our new location at Homesteader Hall in the Park County Fairgrounds.

As we prepare for the demolition of the old library building and the construction of a new library, we invite everyone to visit the library one last time from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13. Residents of Powell and surrounding areas are invited to a farewell open house at the old library building. Come say goodbye to the building and enjoy a guided tour behind the scenes. Library staff will discuss the building’s history, point out issues and be available for questions.

The Powell Library has a full month of activities and fun planned for Summer Reading. This year’s theme for Park County Library Summer Reading is Adventure Begins at Your Library. The program runs from May 31-July 19 and is open for all ages. All programs will be held at the Park County Fairgrounds unless otherwise mentioned.

Kicking off Summer Reading at the Powell Library will be a visit by Charlie Williams: The Noise Guy, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, under the open-air pavilion at the Park County Fairgrounds.

At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11 we will welcome Melissa Hill from Buffalo Bill Center of the West for Raptor Adventures at Heart Mountain Hall.

At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 join us as Bryan McKenzie from BLM gives a presentation on Caving in the Big Horn Basin. This program will be in the Heart Mountain meeting room.

From 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, Karl Johnston from the Park County Fair office will be offering online fair entry assistance. This is for all ages, so bring your information and payment method and get help signing up all entries for the fair.

Join us for Family History Friday on June 14. Sign up for a free one-on-one, hour -long session with Larry and Maureen Akin.

Join us for a local author talk at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18. Scott C. Werbelow will be discussing his latest book “Son of a Poacher III: No Time to Rest.”

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us at 2 p.m., June 11 where we will be discussing “Grass Beyond the Mountains” by Richmond P. Hobson Jr.

We also offer an evening book discussion at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 25. We will be discussing “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” by Gregory Maguire.

Join us for Adult Craft Night at 6 p.m on Thursday, June 20 at the Powell Elk’s Lodge located at 581 N. Clark St. to make denim wreaths.

Powell Library is offering Tech Tuesday with Chris; sign up for a one-on-one session with Park County Library IT administrator who can help you with your device problems. Tech Tuesday will be on June 18, sign-ups required.

We have a lot of fun activities planned for teens after school. Join us at 2 p.m Wednesday for Boba Tea and Journaling. Then, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, join us for Balloon Painting. We will be offering writing workshops at 11 a.m. for teens on Thursday, June 6, June 13 and June 20 with local author Cathy Ringler. Join us for our first ever Nerf Target Competition at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 on the grassy field at the fairgrounds. Join us at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 for Rock Wall Climbing on the grassy field at the fairgrounds.

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children. Join Ms. Renee at 10:30 a.m. every Monday and Thursday for Baby and Toddler Time and 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday for Story Time. 

Lego Fun for the Whole Family will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, June 14, June 21 and June 28.

The Powell Library will be closed on Saturday, June 8 as we will be participating at Yardzilla at the fairgrounds, so stop by and say hi at our Outreach Library table.
