January happenings at the library

Park County Libraries is once again celebrating Winter Reading. Go to any Park County Library to participate. The Winter Reading Challenge will run from Jan. 17-Feb. 29 for all ages and sign-ups are not required. All you have to do is read a book and fill out an entry slip with your name for a chance to win a prize. The more you read the more chances you have of winning a prize.  

It is wonderful to announce that Park County Libraries has been notified they will be receiving a grant of $8,497,458 from the Wyoming Multi-Purpose Community Facility Program federal sub grant. This grant will allow us to finally provide a new library for the Powell community. There will be more news and information to come regarding the progress of the Powell Library project. 

Don’t forget to check out the new Powell Storywalk located at Homesteader Park and enjoy reading a story as you enjoy the crisp January weather. Also, if anyone is homebound the library offers Books Beyond Boundaries, a service to deliver books to homebound residents. Contact the library for more information. 

Powell Library will now be offering Tech Tuesday with Chris. Sign up for a one-on-one session with the Park County Library IT administrator who can help you with your device problems. Tech Tuesday will be on Jan. 16. Sign-ups required. 

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us on Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “West with the Night” by Beryl Markham. We also offer an evening book discussion on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. We will be discussing “Letters from Honeyhill: a women’s view of homesteading 1914-1931,” by Cecilia Hennel Hendricks.

Family Movie Night will be on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. Come join the library for a fun family movie, popcorn will be provided. 

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. to make wine cork heart wall hangings.     

Powell Library will once again have a Winter Reading Day of Hygge. Enjoy the Danish concept of coziness and comfort with the library. Join us on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m.-noon with a cocoa and tea bar, card making station and cozy reads. Bring your blanket, dress comfortably and come relax at the library on a Day of Hygge.

Drop in for the next Wyoming Library to Business webinar on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. to learn how to write product descriptions.

Join us on Thursday, Jan. 25  at 6 p.m. as Dr. Dean Bartholomew discusses Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and anxiety at the Powell Library.           

Families, join us for Homeschool Hour on Monday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. Come to the library and connect with other homeschool families and focus on the topic of music for the month.

We have a lot of fun activities planned for teens after school. Join us every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for Young Adult Craft Day and every Friday at 2 p.m. for Early Release Day Activities. Stop by the library, check out our social media pages or calendar on our website to learn more about the activities for the week. 

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children. Join Ms. Renee every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby & Toddler Time and every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time. Lego Club is back on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 3:30 p.m. for kindergarten-fifth grade children. Sign up for Read to a Dog on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m. Join us for a Homeschool Hour centered around music on Monday, Jan 29 at 2 p.m. Kids in first-fifth grade can sign up for the Winter Book Club; this month’s book is “A Mouse Called Wolf,” by Dick King-Smith.The first book discussion will be on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Come to the Powell Library to get your book and sign up.     

Stop by Saturday, Jan. 6, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Powell Library. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library.  Also, if you’re interested in helping out with book sales and supporting the library consider joining the Friends of the Library.                   

Please remember all Park County Libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 15.
