Wrapping up the home slate with a dual against Lander on Thursday the Powell High School girls’ wrestling team fell 36-23 to the visiting Tigers despite winning four of seven matches, before heading to Greybull on Saturday where the Panthers took the top spot in the tournament.
LANDER 36, POWELL 23
Powell startedwith a win, as Caydee Eden pinned her opponent at 100 pounds with 22 seconds left in the first period.
Avery LeBlanc added to that advantage, as she got a pin of her own with 22 seconds left in the second period to make it 12-0.
A double forfeit at 110 pounds meant no points for either team, before Allison LeBlanc pinned her opponent with 36 seconds left in the first period to make it 18-0.
Eleasah Horsley continued the winning streak for the Panthers, making quick work with a 17-1 tech fall after the second period to make it 23-0.
Lander got on the board with a pin at 125 pounds, before two straight forfeits by Powell made it a 23-18 scoreline.
The Tigers took the lead with a pin at 140 pounds, and another forfeit at 145 pounds made it 30-23.
A pin in the final bout gave Lander the 36-23 victory.
GREYBULL TOURNAMENT
Making the short trip to Greybull on Saturday the Panthers took part in the final tournament of the regular season.
Powell had two victors on the day, as Eden went 3-0 at 100 pounds with three pins all in the first period, as well as Horsley at 115 pounds who had three pins, including two in the first period.
The Panthers added three second placers, as Avery LeBlanc went 2-1 at 105 pounds, Allison LeBlanc went 2-1 at 110 pounds and Nalani Jordan went 1-1 at 135 pounds.
Other wrestlers included Aubrey Blount who took third at 125 pounds going 0-2 and Stella Schmidtberger who went 0-4 at 155 pounds to finish fifth.
The Panthers finished with 98 points, taking the team crown by 25 points over second place Shoshoni.
CODY DUAL
The Panthers head on the road for a quick evening of competition this week, making the trip to Cody for a dual against the Fillies at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
That will be the final action of the regular season for the Panther girls, before they host the 4A West Regional Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
