A week off from competition has served the Powell High School girls’ wrestling team well, as they took advantage of the break to prepare for the final month of the regular season leading up to the regional tournament.
“It was a beneficial week for us because we were able to rest a bit from the bumps and bruises that the season has brought,” coach David Holland said. “It was a great week for the girls to re-center their focus for the rest of the season. This part of wrestling season is where the grind truly begins and it can be easy to become complacent and just go through the motions.”
He said that the Panthers were able to work on specific fixes, focusing throughout the week while taking the time to have some fun in the pool and take team pictures on Friday before relaxing over the weekend.
This week the Panthers will travel for a dual against Lander on Thursday at 5 p.m. before taking part in the Lander Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
“Coming into this week we should be well rested and healed up and ready to go for the last three weekends of the season before we gear up for regionals and state,” Holland said. “I would like to see the girls wrestle tough as we will have some matches that could affect seeding at regionals. We have the opportunity to wrestle lots of matches from Thursday evening through Saturday, which will be great for our girls.”
