Gale Francis Loomis passed away from this life on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with family by his side.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents Gordon Harrison and Vera Jane (Baker) Loomis, Terry Anne (Mason) Loomis, his wife of 66 years, and Janet (Loomis) and Jim Decker, his sister and brother-in-law. Gale is survived by his three children Laurie Anne (Loomis) Pederson and husband Eric of Nixa, Missouri; Brett Harrison Loomis and wife Michele of San Antonio, Texas; Brad Robert Loomis of West Yellowstone, Montana; grandchildren: Lauren Riehl and husband Steve, Lance Pedersen and wife Jenna, Brandon Loomis and wife Melanie, Courtney Kerry and husband John, Kaley Jenkins and husband Tanner, Bryce Loomis, Braden Loomis and Blake Loomis, and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Glen Loomis and wife Virginia, sister Doris Sternisky and husband Wayne, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Gale was born in Powell, Wyoming on May 30, 1935. Powell is where he was raised and graduated from high school. He furthered his education earning an engineering degree from the University of Wyoming. While in Laramie, he met Terry Mason. On May 31, a week after Terry turned 17, they eloped and were married in Red Lodge, Montana. Soon after, Gale was drafted and sent to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, for basic training. While there he switched letters between Terry and his parents and now his parents knew he was married. After basic training Gale was stationed in Colorado Springs at Ft. Carson. Gale secured a petroleum engineering job with Sinclair Oil and Gas in Rawlins, Wyoming. Gale and Terry then moved to Billings, Montana, where he went to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and was blessed with three AWESOME children. He was able to retire and in June of 1987 Gale, Glen and families started a family business in West Yellowstone and lived there until his passing.
Gale loved the outdoors, horses, RZR riding, snowmobiling and most of all family and church! Gale was an elder in Billings and when he, Glen and families moved to West Yellowstone, they brought back the Church of Christ.
The celebration of his life will be Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ in Billings, Montana, 1220 10th St. W. Graveside service will be in Powell, Wyoming, at 3 p.m. to be placed next to Terry.
Gale was a prime example of a Christian, husband, father, brother and friend!
