For the second year in a row the Powell Middle School eighth grade girls’ track and field team claimed the Yellowstone Conference title, as the seventh grade girls finished fourth with strong performances in Worland on Saturday.
Five individual first place finishes helped pace the eighth grade girls, as Maci MaGill won the 200 meters in 27.96 seconds and set a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 8 inches; Aubree Kraft won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 32.04 seconds, and the 1600 meters in 5:40.25 while Autumn Kleinfeldt took the top mark in the pole vault clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.
The Cubs also won the 4x400 relay in 4:54.58; no participants were listed in the results.
Second place finishes included MaGill in the 100 meter dash (13.6) and 400 meters (1:05.9) alongside Kleinfeldt in the 200 meters (28.01).
Additional top five individual finishes for the eighth grade girls included Finley Franklin who placed third in the high jump (4-3); Kimber Allan took third in the triple jump (31-5 1/2); Kleinfeldt placed fourth in the 100 meter dash (14.01) and the triple jump (30-10 1/2); Kraft took fourth in the 400 meters (1:07.12); Teagan Gillett was fourth in the long jump (13-6 1/2); Tabbetha Turner placed fourth in the discus (70-8) and fifth in the shot put (25-0 3/4) while Beth Black took fifth in the 1600 meters (6:52.31).
As a team the Cubs earned 161 points, taking the team title by seven points over Cody.
Malina Anderson was the lone victor for the smaller seventh grade girls team, taking the discus title with a throw of 69-9.
Jade Miller had a strong day for the Cubs, as she placed second in the 100 meter dash (14.26) and the 400 meters (1:04.98) as well as third in the 200 meters (29.18) and long jump (13-10 3/4).
Lilly Lennon added a third place finish in the pole vault (6); Marli Allen was third in the shot put (21-2) and fifth in the discus (56-10); Nylea Paul tied for fourth in the pole vault (6); Maryssa Giltner placed fourth in the shot put (20-5 1/4) and discus (57-1); Anderson was fifth in the shot put (20-1) and Blayden Cross was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (20.08).
The seventh grade Cubs finished fourth with 83.5 points, as Cody won the team title with 185 points, just under 31 points ahead of Lovell in second.
