Park County Disc Golf Club member Dr. Jordan Soloai scored the second ace reported during an official round Thursday at Dee Havig Disc Golf Course.
Soloai (pronounced Solo-eye) scored his ace on hole 7 on the Northwest College Campus 18-hole course. The hole is a 280-foot, par 3 and Soloai was throwing into a headwind, said Jay Hecht, who was on the card with the physical therapist. After his drive dropped in the basket, Soloai threw his hands in the air and celebrated the shot with his card-mates.
Soloai is arguably the top player in the club, holding the course record of 13 under par. The previous record holder was Hecht, who was next up on the hole.
“It’s tough to follow him,” Hecht said.
Soloai has been playing for 28 years and Thursday’s hole-in-one wasn’t his first. He also scored an ace while playing a friendly round at Dee Havig with friends on April 13. He said it was a bit of a miracle. The wind was howling that day, and his friend was first up on the tee. The player hit an ace on the shot and second up was Soloai, who also sunk his drive, sending the players into a frenzy of celebration.
Soloai said his interest in the sport mostly comes from fellowship with friends and family who join him for a round.
“I like to celebrate everybody else’s wins as much as my own,” he said. “I gave everyone a high five.”
The Park County Disc Golf Club sponsors a free handicap league on Thursday nights, currently starting at 5:30 p.m. Updates for the league can be found on the club’s Facebook page (under the same name) and at UDisc.com. New players are welcome throughout the season.
