Cubs strong in Shoshoni

The Powell Middle School track and field teams competed well in Shoshoni on Saturday, as the boys’ team won with 153 points and the girls’ team placed second with 104.5 points.

In combined fields between the seventh and eighth graders, the Cub boys had four wins, as Tyler Cole won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.64 seconds and the 200 meter hurdles in 29.1, Auzzy Carter won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 3 1/2 inches, and Carter Gambill won the high jump clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.

The girls’ team also had four event wins, as the Cubs had Maci MaGill at the top winning the 100 meter dash in 13.43 seconds, the 200 meters in 27.83 seconds and the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 1 inch, while Aubree Kraft won the 400 meters in 1:06.29.

Additional top three finishes from the Cub boys included Ethan Kennedy who placed second in the 1600 meters (5:37.22); Dawson Engesser took second in the shot put (35-11 1/4) and third in the discus (105-7); Cole was second in the triple jump (35-6 1/2); Tucker McDonald took third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.65) and pole vault (7-6); Gambill was third in the 100 meter dash (12.7) and the 200 meters (25.38) and Ryder DeBoer was third in the long jump (15-6 1/2).

Additional top three finishes for the Cub girls included Charlee Muecke who took second in the discus (69); Teagan Gillett placed second in the triple jump (30-3); Jade Miller took third in the 400 meters (1:07.19) and Tabbetha Turner was third in the shot put (23-11 3/4).

In the team standings the boys ran away with the title, scoring 153 points while Thermopolis was second with 97.

The girls were second with 104.5 points, well ahead of third placed Lovell which had 69 but behind Burlington which won with 135.5 points.

The Cubs continue to roll along into the final weeks of the season, as they will host their annual meet Saturday morning at Powell High School, before heading to Lovell next week for the final meet of the regular season on Friday.

Conference is set to take place in Worland on Saturday, May 9, before the Best of the Best in Lander on May 12 to end the season.
