Dear editor:
Counterfeit (adjective):
To make an imitation of usually in order to deceive or defraud.
To carry on a deception; dissemble
The recent piece under “Civics and Civility” titled “Counterfeit Conservatives” was anything but civic and civil. The author very narrowly defines what it is to be a conservative, and considers anyone outside his definition and image to be a counterfeit. Well, it must be nice to wake up every morning, look in the mirror and think that one is the ideal type section (as geologist say) of a conservative. What is truly sad is that such a highly divisive piece comes out during a time where there are calls for unity in the Republican Party. As the saying goes: Do as I say, not as I do.
Let that piece burn into your memory real deep like a branding iron. And when someone runs for office who called you, your family and neighbors a counterfeit, vote appropriately.
