Betty Jane Fish (Johnson), a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was born in Garland, Wyoming, on April 27, 1934, the eldest of five daughters to Robert and Mary Johnson. She spent her early years traveling with her family before they settled in Powell, Wyoming, where she graduated from high school. After her father passed away, Betty helped her mother raise her younger sisters. She was always thankful for what she had and worked hard to build a better future for her family.
In 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Glen Cecil Fish, Jr., and the couple made their home in Cody, Wyoming. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and hard work, raising their three children. Their family grew to include five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom Betty cherished deeply.
Betty and Cecil were married for 59 wonderful years, sharing adventures as partners in their successful dozer business, where Cecil ran the machinery and Betty managed the books. In retirement, they enjoyed fishing, traveling and creating lasting memories with their family at Buffalo Bill Reservoir and Lake Havasu, Arizona. They were founding members of the Big Horn Basin Boat Club, playing a vital role in its establishment. Betty was also a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years — she treasured the friendships she formed within her sorority for a lifetime.
After Cecil’s passing in 2011, Betty embraced her role as a loving matriarch, nurturing her family and doting on her cat. She enjoyed traveling, even visiting New York City at the age of 77, and loved sharing stories of her family, savoring the beauty of northwest Wyoming, and indulging in her favorite sweets — especially chocolate — and dancing to her favorite songs.
Betty’s warmth, resilience and devotion to her family will be remembered forever. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; her parents, Robert and Mary Johnson; and her sister, Shirley Johnson. She is survived by her children, Duane Fish, Susie (Jerry) Rodriguez, and Carrie (Ronald) Reed; her grandchildren, Justin (Lillian) Fish, Megan (Grant) Langdon, Kaiya Rodriguez, Chynna (Ronald) Singer and Carter Reed; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Oliver, Reed and Hayes; her sisters, Marjorie Flom, Bonnie (Robert) Coorough and Linda (Tom) Perri; and countless friends and extended family members.
Betty Jane Fish will forever be remembered as a remarkable woman whose love and kindness were as sweet as her favorite treats.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences can be shared on Betty’s memorial page at BallardFH.com.
