EMPORIA, Kan. — Western Writers of America will host the inaugural James Ersfeld Writing Symposium on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West
“Writing for the 21st Century” features a keynote address by award-winning authors and Big Horn Basin residents Kathleen O’Neal Gear and W. Michael Gear. Michael will speak on the current status of the Western novel, while Kathleen will address new forms of censorship by algorithm and what it means for Western authors.
Other authors in attendance will include E. Joe Brown, author of the Kelly Can Saga, Stuart Rosebrook, editor of True West Magazine, and Melody Groves, president of the Western Writers of America. A behind-the-scenes tour of the McCracken Research Library’s Archive is included with admission. Symposium attendance is $45, which includes a light breakfast. Lunch is available at the Center café.
