A local woman suffered fatal injuries after being struck by her vehicle on Friday afternoon.
Celia Solis, a longtime Powell resident, died Saturday at the age of 66.
“This was a very unfortunate accident,” said Monte McClain, a spokesman for the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
Solis had just finished walking her dogs along the Garland Canal, near the intersection of Road 6 and U.S. Highway 14A, when the incident occurred.
Solis attempted to load her dogs into her 2020 Kia Telluride, but didn’t get it into park all the way, McClain said; when she subsequently stepped out of the vehicle, it rolled backwards over her.
A bystander spotted Solis and called 911 at 4:10 p.m. He provided first aid until emergency responders from Powell Valley Healthcare, the Powell volunteer fire department, the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the sheriff’s office arrived.
Solis was taken to the Powell hospital and later flown by a Guardian Flight helicopter to a Billings hospital, McClain said. She succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Solis was a Powell native and a longtime nurse at Powell Valley Hospital. More recently, she worked as a pharmacy technician at Powell Drug and Albertsons. McClain was one of the many area residents who got to know Solis over the years and he described her as “a wonderful lady.”
The rosary will be recited at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church at 5 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a reception at The Commons from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
