Two injured after vehicles collide with loose cows

A Powell man and a Basin woman were injured on Monday night, after their vehicles collided with two cows that got loose on U.S. Highway 14A.

The crashes occurred around 9:40 p.m. at milepost 10, roughly 7 miles outside of Cody.

An eastbound Toyota Tundra struck one of the cows, then an eastbound Volkswagen sedan hit the other cow and the one that had already been hit, the Park County Sheriff’s Office said.

“The Volkswagen rolled several times before coming to rest,” said Monte McClain, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 47-year-old Powell man, was taken by ambulance to Cody Regional Health. He suffered facial fractures, a concussion and a lot of bruising, the sheriff’s office said.

Meanwhile, a 73-year-old woman who was riding in the Toyota truck reportedly suffered a fractured sternum. She also was transported to the Cody hospital. The sheriff’s office said the driver of the Toyota was not injured.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts and the airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Both the Toyota and Volkswagen received extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
