Following an initial return to Powell last year the truck and tractor pull will once again be wowing the crowds at the Park County Fair, performing at the grandstand on Thursday night.
Truck and tractor pulling involves hooking the driver’s chosen truck or tractor up to a sled with increasing weight while they try to get as close as possible to the 300 foot mark.
Featured in this year’s event will be a new sled, replacing the sled from last year’s performance and bringing a better product for competitors to pull.
“This year we have a brand new sled,” Megan Werner said. “Basically we did a complete overhaul of it in the offseason. So expect to see a slightly different version of what we brought last year.”
Once again the truck pull features a number of different classes for competitors, including stock gas, stock diesel, 2.6 diesel, 3.0 diesel, outlaw diesel, modified gas, super stock gas and tractors of any size.
“We have room for anybody, we will make space for anybody,” Werner said. “Anybody that has any interest in it is more than welcome to come out and hang out with us.”
Anybody looking to get the kids out to enjoy the event Werner said that viewers young and old will enjoy the variety of vehicles entered into the event, including a special vehicle expected to show up.
“I know that we have had talks of a steam engine showing up, which is always very cool for young and old to see,” Werner said. “It puts on a great show. We love tractors, kids love tractors and the grandparents love the tractors too. As far as our trucks go, they always put on a great show. They’re loud, they’re smoky. Everybody loves the diesels.”
Werner said that prize funds for each class will be determined by how many entrants they have in each class, and that participants are preferred to register the day of the competition.
Registration for the event begins at 4 p.m. and lasts up until just before the beginning of the event.
Those interested in participating can contact Werner or the Montana Pullers Association on their Facebook, or via email at mtpullers@gmail.com
“We’re open to the conversation with anybody that has any questions or any interest in it,” Werner said. “Anybody that has any sort of interest in it (is welcome). We love our veterans and we love our new guys.”
The event will start at 7 p.m. with the gates opening at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $12, or $17 for box seats.
