The Meeteetse Museums is taking reservations for the Legend Rock Tour on June 3 led by Nathaniel Barney and John Pingree from the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. This year, staff are keeping tours to 12 people. There will be two tours: one at 9:30 a.m. and the other at 11 a.m. To reserve a spot, call (307) 868-2423 or come into the Meeteetse Museums. Emails or Facebook messages do not reserve your spot; only a phone call or in-person sign ups will reserve the spot. On the day of the tour, you must show up on time and must meet us on-site. Tours are first come, first served based on advanced registration. There is a wait list. If you cannot make the tour but have reserved a spot, please call and cancel so someone else can enjoy the experience.
Nathaniel Barney is a consultation research officer and John Pingree is a cultural spiritual representative for the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. The tribe has a mission to “preserve and protect [their] ancestral historical homelands, traditions, values, history, sacred sites, artifacts, language and inspire the Eastern Shoshone through the way of life” (esthpo.com/).
To learn more about Legend Rock and the history of Native Tribes, we have books in our Museum Gift Store. We have “Ancient Visions: Petroglyphs and Pictographs from the Wind River and Bighorn Country” by Lawrence Loendorf, “People of the Wind River: The Eastern Shoshones, 1825–1900” by Henry E. Stamm IV, and “Two Hawk Dreams” by Lawrence Loendorf. (Members receive 10% off.) To register for the tour on June 3 or for more information, stop in or call the Meeteetse Museums at (307) 868-2423. The Museums are open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. before Memorial Day and Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. after Memorial Day.
