An invitational featuring nearly every 3A North Conference team saw some improved results for the Powell Panther girls’ swim team, as the Panthers placed fifth at the Worland Invitational on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Panthers was Kaitlin Diver, who pulled off a pair of victories in the 500 free with a time of 5 minutes, 44.46 seconds, and the 200 free with a time of 2:10.31.
“Our team was led by Kaitlin who had strong wins in both her 200 and 500 freestyle races,” coach Bob Smartt said.
The next highest placing Panther was Addy Powell, who finished fourth in the 100 back (1:12.86).
Other top 10 finishers for the Panthers included Kumora Snell taking seventh in the 100 back (1:21.19); Anika Anderson placing eighth in the 200 IM (3:00.02); Samantha Young placing ninth in the 200 free (2:39.09); Brooke Brown placing ninth in the 200 IM (3:05.54); Tempie Day placing ninth in the 500 free (7:44.94); Myah Rakness placing 10th in diving (99.1) and Baylee Kraft placing 10th in the 500 free (7:57.86).
“Baylee scored three points by taking 10th in the 500 freestyle, breaking the eight minute barrier, a 20 second improvement from her best time in club swimming,” Smartt said.
In the team race the Panthers finished fifth with 154 points, just ahead of Rawlins with 135 points, which was the only nonconference opponent in attendance.
The four other conference opponents battled it out for the team title, as Cody came out on top with 248 points, Buffalo was second with 244, Douglas was third with 231 and Worland was fourth with 228.
Next pool action will be in Cody today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. to take part in a double dual against Cody and Worland.
Powell will then make the travel to Douglas to take part in an invitational at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
