Powell Valley Healthcare wins a fair amount of awards from major organizations for various aspects of the hospital, but the latest award is special — it’s from the very patients who use the hospital.
“It’s from our patients, it’s our patients’ surveys that made us a 5-star,” CEO Joy Coulston said. “That’s what makes it amazing.”
So, the hospital invited the community last Thursday to celebrate with dinner on the patio on an unseasonably warm fall afternoon.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid added the 5-star rating to its hospital compare program in 2015 as part of the public reporting of hospital quality data on its website. PVHC recently received 5-stars on the patient survey rating, which measures patients’ experiences of their hospital care.
The 5-star theme was in evidence. There were stars on the cake, star-shaped cookies, star balloons. And inside, tables included a number of testimonials from patients who had appreciated their time at the hospital.
They’re even making T-shirts to celebrate the rating, said Powell Hospital Foundation Executive Director Amy Wells.
“That’s what matters most is they [the patients] care,” she said.
