Steven Lamont Carpenter, 49 passed away from cancer, on May 10, 2024, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was born on April 25, 1975 in Powell, Wyoming, to David and Marilyn (Johnson) Carpenter. He has three brothers, David, Cory, and Ryan and two sisters, Jamie and Merilee. He spent his childhood years growing up in Powell where he graduated from Powell High School in 1994. In 1995, Steve served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California San Jose Mission. He loved his time in California, the weather, the people he met, the mountain biking, and most importantly the testimony he gained of his Savior Jesus Christ as he faithfully served.

When he returned to Powell after his mission he attended Northwest College. In the fall of 1997 he met the love of his life Sarah (Paxton). It didn’t take long for Steve to ask her to marry him. They were engaged in October and married on Feb. 28, 1998 in the Manti, Utah temple for time and all eternity. Steve and Sarah have four children Sierra, Carson, Briana and Paityn.

Steve and Sarah moved to Utah in 2000 where Steve completed his bachelor’s degree from Utah Valley University and went on to complete his MBA at the University of Utah. They spent 10 years in the Provo/Orem area where they gained many dear friends. In 2009, they moved to Enoch, Utah, where Steve started working for Southern Utah University. The past six years he has loved working as the Director of Internal Audit for SUU; he had a passion for his work and enjoyed the interactions and friendships that were built with the many people he worked with.

Steve served faithfully in many church callings and was an example of a faithful follower of Jesus Christ to his family, neighbors, friends, and all who he came in contact with. Steve’s life was greatly influenced for good by Floyd and Virginia Young, their son Bruce, and family.

Steve is survived by his wife Sarah and their children Sierra (Sam) Meacham, Carson Carpenter, Briana Carpenter, and Paityn Carpenter; one grandson Maverick Meacham; Steve’s parents David Lee Carpenter and Marilyn Kaye Carpenter; siblings David Carpenter Jr., Jamie (Troy) Sweet, Cory Carpenter and Merilee (Nicholas) Ward. Steve’s in-laws John and Dianne (Olsen) Paxton and Sarah’s sisters, Christine (Brandon) Knopp, Martha (George) Hibbler, Rebecca (Mark) DeMuth, Elizabeth Erickson, and Olivia (Jonathon)Hardy. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Steve was preceeded in death by his brother Ryan Blaine Carpenter; grandparents Fred F. Carpenter, Marion D. Carpenter, George and Eleanor Johnson, and Elsie Johnson.

Steve will be greatly missed by so many. He would want all to know he had a strong testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and loved his family and will be anxiously awaiting the time when they can be together forever once again.
