The annual Stand for Life anti abortion event will be held at 11 a.m. at Washington Park, with food to follow at Saint Barbara’s Catholic Church as always. The only change is that this year’s event will take place in June instead of January.
Shane Legler, pastor of Garland Community Church of God and an organizer for the event, said that they wanted to “get out of the shadow” of the abolishment of Roe V. Wade. While it may seem intentional that the event is a day before Father’s Day, Legler said that the event is only scheduled on Father’s Day weekend so that it doesn’t conflict with Cody’s March for Life.
Legler said that rather than do a march like in Cody, they decided years ago to have a gathering in the park which allows everybody to participate including those who are not able to participate in a march. The event will last approximately half an hour. All are welcome to join and participants will have the option to sign a Pledge for Life and donate to the Serenity Pregnancy Resource Center.
“I think there’s great value in an age where there’s so much confusion [to have] likeminded people coming together and saying this is God’s position on this,” Legler said.
