A 75th birthday is an occasion to celebrate, and that just what members of the Shoshone Rock Club of Powell are going to do.
The club was founded in Powell on April 6, 1951 and named for the Shoshone River.
The celebration starts with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Elks Lodge, located at Sixth and Clark streets. Club board member Gary Olson will provide entertainment by singing and playing the guitar, and possibly telling a story or two.
Celebrations continue on Saturday with the silent auction of items in Les and Mildred Lawrence’s collection of crystals, nonvertebrate fossils and minerals.
The Lawrences were charter members of the Shoshone Rock Club. The collection now belongs to Denise Kelsay of Powell, who has organized this special event as a fundraiser for the club.
Most of the 350 items in the collection are quite small and could fit on your hand. They are labeled and in very good condition.
The silent auction takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gestalt Studios in the Polar Plant, 440 W. Park St.
Anyone interested is welcome to both events. For more information about the club or this week’s events, email lapidarygary2@gmail.com or call club president Ilene Olson at 764-3777 (landline). Be prepared to leave your name for the call to go through.
