The Powell Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team traveled to Riverton Jan. 25 to face Lander and Riverton.
The “A” team beat Lander 40-20 with a very balanced scoring effort. Zane Graft had seven points, Dusty Carter, Alex Jordan and Evan Whitlock each added six and Landen Hernandez chipped in five points. Defensively, the Cubs held Lander to single digits in the first three quarters.
The “B” team also beat Lander, 48-25. The Cubs had a big third quarter offensively, scoring 19 points, while holding Lander to a single point in the fourth. Victor Torres and Jaxon Hancock each scored 10 points, with Juan Torres and Mitchel Wainscott adding seven apiece.
The “B” team beat Riverton as well, 42-14. The Cubs limited Riverton’s scoring to single digits in each quarter. McKale Foley led the team with 13 points with Juan Torres adding seven.
The “A” team trailed Riverton 23-20 at the half, but rallied to secure a 39-30 win. Carter led all scorers with 17 points, while Jordan and Hernandez each added 6 points for the Cubs.
“It was a great day to be a Powell Cub!” said coach Tracy McArthur.
