Robyn Cutter to present history of the Director’s Club at Cody Library

Robyn Cutter of the Park County Archives will host a special presentation on the history of the Director’s Club, Cody’s centuries old social club, at 2 p.m. at Cody Library’s Grizzly Hall on Saturday, March 15.

Cutter will lead the discussion on this long-standing Cody institution, which has been known by several names, including the Green Front Gang, Green Front Poker Club, Director’s Bridge Club, and, finally, the Director’s Club.

Founded in 1896, the Director’s Club remains an active part of the Cody community 129 years later.

Over the decades, its members have included some of Cody’s most influential figures — county commissioners, state senators, mayors, school board members, city councilmen, bankers, ranchers, real estate professionals and business owners. The club primarily functioned as a social space where members gathered to play gin rummy daily, often with multiple tables in play. Throughout its history, the club has operated from at least seven different locations in Cody.

Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Robyn Cutter holds degrees in Interior Design and Historic Preservation. Her career has included work in downtown revitalization, historic preservation, grant writing and digital archiving. She moved to Cody in 2002 and worked for the McCracken Research Library before joining the Park County Archives, where she now focuses on preserving local history.

Cutter has extensively researched the history of the club and its members, compiling her findings into a 520-page book, which will be available for purchase at the event. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Park County Archives at (307) 527-8530.
