Randell ‘Randy’ Edward Walling

Randell “Randy” Edward Walling, 92, of Powell, Wyoming, passed away from heart complications on April 19, 2023, after a brief stay at the Billings Clinic hospital. He was born on Oct. 14, 1930, in Munday, Texas, to Reginald and Treasure Walling, the third of seven children. He grew up on a farm near Sunset where he learned many life lessons.

Randy married Larna “Jean” Tallant on Aug. 6, 1958, in Munday, Texas. This union blended three sons and two daughters with them adding two more daughters along the way.  

Randy had a natural ability in troubleshooting work in the oil field starting in Texas. Baker Oil Tools brought the family from Texas to Casper, Wyoming, in 1962, then to Powell, Wyoming, in 1965. In 1974, Randell and Jean, with their two youngest girls, began adventures overseas with Marathon Oil. During those years they lived in Pakistan, Ireland, Nigeria, Tunisia, Syria and Egypt, spent many overlays in London, and visited many other countries.

In 1985, Randy went from “Operations Manager Overseas” to a “Gentleman Rancher” retiring to Proctor, Texas. He raised Beefmaster bulls, catfish and guineas before moving to Rolling Meadows retirement community in Wichita Falls, Texas. He and Jean moved back to Powell in 2013 before moving to Rocky Mountain Manor in 2017. They enjoyed many friendships, old and new, throughout the years.

Randy was a natural-born storyteller, with a glint in his eye and his wonderful grin that his family and friends knew well. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports and being sure everyone had full bellies. In his last few days, he continued sharing his life story with the medical staff in Billings, before lying down for his last nap.

He is survived by his brother Tommy (Joy), son Dick (Colleen), daughters Freda (Jeff), Kim (Lloyd), Tammy, and Randi Sue, 13 grandchildren and over 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, five siblings, wife Jean, son Sam, son Tony, grandson Mike and son-in-law Alan.

Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rocky Mountain Manor or to a hospice of your choice.
