After determining it was an unneeded expense, The Powell Valley Hospital District Board in July decided to sell a number of its older vehicles, including its oldest ambulance.
At its last meeting, trustees determined to donate the ambulance (the hospital has four newer ones and didn’t need a fifth) to Northwest College.
“This donation is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance community health and safety,” the board said in a release.
The Ford 2000 Ambulance MS243 will be used to support the college’s emergency medical services training program and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students.
The ambulance will be officially transferred to Northwest College in September 2025.
The college has been expanding its health care offerings and most recently added a new, shorter paramedic program aimed at helping to solve the shortage of EMS personnel around the country.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact this donation will have on the college’s EMS program and the broader community,” the board said.
