Powell High School’s dinner theater returns in delicious fashion with “The Wedding Intern’s Farce,” Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at Heart Mountain Hall at the Park County Fairgrounds.
This will be the fourth dinner theater hosted by Powell High School, director Jeff Greaham explained. Last year the drama club opted for a children’s play but this year decided to bring dinner theater back because the play was slated for Valentine’s Day.
“It’s funny, but it’s kind of a romantic comedy, which kind of fits the season as well,” Greaham said.
The play, as suggested in the title, is a farce, where a wedding planner intern scrambles to fix a double booked wedding.
“Adding to the ceremonial confusion are the wedding themes — superheroes and the musical “Cats” — and the fact that the two couples are utterly mismatched,” a synopsis from dramatic publishing reads.
While audience members watch the chaos, other Powell High drama club members will be serving food prepared by Northwest College’s catering service.
The Valentine’s Day performance will feature Italian cuisine and dessert, while the Feb. 15 show will be dessert only.
“It’ll be a good time for family, it’s a good time for people just wanting to spend some time together … we worked really hard on this, and it would suck for all of this work to happen and one or two people come in,” said cast member Levi Hawley, who plays the titular wedding planner intern. “So it’s really the people that make a play happen.”
The play is unique because the cast has to be really good at the fundamentals and there are no big musical numbers or scene changes, said cast member Paul Cox, who plays one of the inconvenienced fiances.
“I will say simplicity is kind of nice because … pretty much everyone here has done both the musical and the play,” said Jenessa Polson, who plays the wedding planner, adding “I adore the musicals but I do like a change of pace, it’s fun.”
Freshman Reina Hansen, who plays a wedding planner intern, is new to high school theater and has been enjoying her time “being in my element and just working with this amazing group of people that I have gotten along with so well, it’s pretty special.”
Tickets are $20 for the Valentine’s show at 6 p.m. and $8 per ticket for the 2 p.m. show on Feb. 15. To purchase tickets or for more information visit cur8.com/23454/project/128936.
