Following a short break, the return of the Young Authors contest has concluded and 28 Powell students across a wide age range walked away with awards including five state winners and eight honorable mentions on the state level. Young Authors is a statewide competition for students K-12 sponsored by the Wyoming State Literary Association.
“I believe the importance of the young authors competition for students is to really get them to share their voice. They have important ideas and an important voice and I believe the world needs to hear more of our students’ voices,” said Brittany Mollett, a Westside Elementary School teacher and local committee member for the contest. “That’s why I like to do it. I like to see what they’re thinking, what the world is turning into with our kids and then helping them pursue those dreams and really getting out there.”
Mollett and other district teachers and staff joined students and their families at Powell Middle School on May 8 to celebrate the students’ success.
