The City of Powell is again offering local residents a chance to get an in-depth look at how the city functions.
Applications are now being accepted for the city’s second-ever Citizen Academy.
The free, nine-week program is designed to showcase the ins and outs of the city, from street maintenance to law enforcement.
Participants will meet department heads and other city staff while checking out facilities like the garbage transfer station and police department. The program also aims to show people how they can get more involved in local government.
It’s the city’s second-ever academy, following a 2023 offering that drew about a dozen attendees.
City officials want the class to reflect a cross-section of the community.
“We are seeking academy participants of all ages, and that are from all walks of life — retirees, laborers, business owners and administrative professionals,” says a promotional flyer.
Applications are available on the city’s website (cityofpowell.com), for pick up at city hall or by contacting Clerk Tiffany Brando at 307-754-6903 or tbrando@cityofpowell.com.
The academy will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays, starting on Sept. 3.
